A mail merge fresh start

One of my favorite mail merge best practices is giving your mail merge a fresh start. For those of us who live in multi-tabbed Excel sheets, it can be tempting to just direct the fields in your letter or document to the right tab. But as your mail merge projects get more complex, it is risky. Are you sure your document is linking to the right field or tab? I like to create a ‘mailing list’ for each project. It is a permanent record of what was sent. It can also be used for a checklist to track responses.
